Thought Bubble Director Nyree McKenzie has been awarded the St.George Bank Fostering Executive Women International Scholarship to attend the Harvard Business School’s Leading Professional Services Firms Executive Education Program in Boston, USA in 2013.
The award is part of QUT Business School Alumni Fostering Executive Women program which develops and promotes women in executive leadership positions through structured programs and continuous learning opportunities.
Nyree was selected to attend the prestigious university following a competitive selection and interview process where she had to demonstrate her business achievements, leadership abilities and career potential.
St.George Bank Head of Business Banking (SME and Qld), Mr Robert Phelps, who presented the award described Nyree’s leadership style as being one that communicates and relates well to others while handling difficult situations with grace.
In her acceptance speech Nyree acknowledged the importance of the Fostering Executive Women program and the opportunities it provides in advancing women in business and leadership, and in making executive education accessible to small business owners. She also thanked her family, business colleagues and mentor, Westfield management executive Brad Harker, and dedicated the award to her two young daughters who she hopes will pursue lifelong learning.
“Most of us at some stage reach that fork in the road, or that steeper incline – through choice, through circumstance or anonymous challenge. Corporate or entrepreneur, we need people who believe in us, not just for what we’ve done, but what we are capable of achieving. That’s why the Fostering Executive Women Mentor program plays such a pivotal role in women’s career development,” said Nyree.
“I’ve learned so much through the program but importantly it’s reshaped my thinking that success is not all about a job description, or salary or the hours that you keep but about the people you touch, the changes you make and the legacy you leave…making our mark in the world as women.”
“I never thought that attending Harvard was within my reach but I’ve learned that with opportunity and support, anything is possible. And at first you don’t succeed, don’t doubt yourself. Just dust yourself off and have another go”.
Nyree said she was excited about participating in the Harvard Executive Education Program and described the opportunity as being “transformational”. She will travel to Boston in June 2013 with another scholarship recipient, Susanne Le Boutillier, who will attend a different program, The Women’s Leadership Forum. Susanne is a Senior Director in the System Policy and Performance Division of Queensland Health.
Nyree holds a Master of Business majoring in Marketing, and a Bachelor of Business majoring in Public Relations and Organisational Communication from QUT. She established Thought Bubble in 2003 and today works with market leaders of global and national brands across Australian, NZ, US and Asian markets.
